YouTube Videos: Short and Sweet Ski Yoga Flow Series

Heyo! It’s been a while! As a skier, I often get asked what I do in the off season to help prepare (both physically and mentally!) for this action sport. And for the past couple years, my answer has been just “yoga!”.

Yoga has helped with my strength, mobility, flexibility, and balance. And some unexpected perks include overall mind/body connection, improved mindset, and breathwork. I have been a casual advocate for yoga in the past 10 years, however, there came a point where I could take it one step further.

I believe in yoga so much that I spent the past couple months gaining my 200 hour Yoga Teacher Training certification so I can be knowledgeable enough to share the philosophy with my community.

I aim to combine these two worlds of mine -the yoga world and the ski world- and I created a couple short (25 – 30 minute) flows to use in conjunction with skiing.

To begin, I have shared three different flows:

Basic Stretch Slow Flow

Balance Flow

Strength Flow

Whether these practices are used with other modalities. Used as a cool down. Or warm up. Or maybe even a simple way to get the body moving on a rest day in between riding. Come back to them as often as you’d like. Repeat the sections as many times as you’d like. These are tools for you to use, whether you’re just starting your yoga journey or you’ve already been on the path.

Some things to remember about yoga:

Be patient with yourself. Part of yoga is the beginner mindset. Having patience when things aren’t going the way you’d expect. Appreciate where you are now.

If anything is painful or you feel any strain, please listen to your body. Come out of the pose. Choose a restful post, like easy pose (seated with legs folded), child’s pose, or savasana. Your practice is your practice. You know your body best!

Take time to rest. I note this in the videos, but savasana is the best part of practice. We create a certain stillness with the postures and breathwork, and in the final resting pose, everything can settle into every corner of our body. You chose to do this practice. Let yourself be in the present moment.
