Ski touring is a different kind of rush. It allows you to escape the crowds of the resort by immersing yourself in the natural world. Not to mention, the possibility of some epic snow conditions.
However, the “reward” of good pow isn’t the point of a ski tour to me.
The “reward” is the full experience. And perhaps we can relate this mentality to the entirety of life. You can’t be waiting around and acknowledging only the best parts in life, but instead, be able to see the beauty in every single step along the way.

Day in the Life: A Love Poem To The Ski Tour
Why do all that for a couple of turns?
To that I say:
Life starts when I hop in the car to go on a ski tour with my favorite person.
Or when I turn on the road that leads me to the beauty and solitude of the mountains.
Life starts with my favorite song coming in on the radio.
With a familiar drive up a windy road
Life starts when I stop
And I pay attention to the moments in between.
Life starts with the ignition of a fire
That warms a pot of water.
And a blend of herbs to make up a cozy cup of tea to warm my body and my soul.
When I choose to recognize the sweetness that I can add to a bitter situation.
Life starts when I stop.
Life starts as I prepare myself for the trails ahead.
Life starts when I begin to feel every inch of my foot cocooned in the hard shell of a ski boot.
Life starts when I strap in and buckle up.
And hear the sweet sounds my beacon turning on, indicating a day of adventure before me.
Life starts when I stop
And take a moment to be grateful for the skin I am in
And the skins that will help me climb literal mountains
Life starts when I fumble around in my gear that hasn’t seen snow in 6 months.
Life starts with partly cloudy skies
Life starts with a road well traveled.
With grass peeking through the low-tide of snow,
an indication of how much of winter we really have to go
Life starts when I stop
Life starts with a racer tuck on the ski track
Life starts with clear skies
And the sparkles they bring to the freshly fallen snow
Life starts with a smile
With a walk among the cold forest shadows, which makes the warmth of the sun that much warmer
Life starts with a wide open field that makes me want to take a quick lap just to feel a little tease of what is to come.
With the short and sweet hill that stands between my and the end of my route.
